A large number of dead who fell during the Battle of the Bulge were buried in this American cemetery. These fierce battles in the Ardennes took place in the winter of 1944-1945. At the end of the war, the Henri-Chapelle Cemetery covered an area of ​​23 hectares and was home to 7,987 American soldiers.
The 7,987 tombstones, 7,849 with Latin crosses and 138 with the Star of David, are beautifully aligned. From the point where the bronze statue of Peace Angel stands, you have a complete overview of the cemetery. This Angel of Peace has an olive branch in here hands and he gives it to the heroic dead. The cemetery also contains a visitor center where you can learn everything about the course of the Battle of the Bulge. You can also visit the colonnade. The names of 450 missing soldiers are engraved here.
