The stream Helle

From the late Middle Ages until 1795, the river formed the border between several areas. for example, here was the border between the Duchy of Limburg and the Duchy of Luxembourg.
In the period 1815-1830 the river separated Prussia from the the Netherlands and from 1830 the Helle formed the border between Prussia and Belgium.

In 1952 a small dam was built and a one and a half kilometer long connecting tunnel was dug between the Helle and the Vesders dam, via the stream Ghete to cope with the large water consumption.
